Urban Indian Organization
Flow diagram showing four pathways for an Urban Indian Organization (UIO) to request assistance and coordination during an emergency response.
At the center is a large circle labeled “Urban Indian Organization.” Below it, the HHS Secretary’s Operations Center directs the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), which provides resources to the Urban Indian Organization.
Pathway 1 (green): The Urban Indian Organization may coordinate a request through the HHS Indian Health Service. The Indian Health Service coordinates with the HHS Secretary’s Operations Center.
Pathway 2 (orange): The Urban Indian Organization may coordinate a request through State Public Health or Emergency Management. State Public Health/Emergency Management coordinates with the HHS Secretary’s Operations Center.
Pathway 3 (purple): The Urban Indian Organization may obtain a clinical consultation with CDC through the HHS/CDC Emergency Operations Center.
Pathway 4 (blue): A prohibited pathway indicates that Urban Indian Organizations are not able to request assistance directly through HHS/ASPR or DHS/FEMA Regional Administrators.
A legend at the bottom identifies the four pathways: (1) request through Indian Health Service, (2) request through State Public Health/Emergency Management, (3) clinical consultation with CDC through the Emergency Operations Center, and (4) direct requests through HHS ASPR Regional Administrators are not permitted.
