ASPR Seeks Input As We Define New Reporting System for Hospital and Health Care Facility Data

The HHS partners, led by Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), are working together to develop a new framework for gathering Essential Elements of Information related to the emergency preparedness and response capabilities of hospitals and health care providers. These data will be used to inform local response efforts, enhance national situational awareness during disasters and emergencies, and inform coordination efforts.

Right now, HHS partners are working to define a system for gathering these data, and we are seeking input from hospitals, health care providers, health care coalitions, and other interested stakeholders on gathering and using these essential elements of information. Your input may help inform decision making as we define the vendor-agnostic technical and policy infrastructure, standards, and capabilities that are needed to support hospital all hazard data reporting across the country.

The information being collected includes data on health care capacity, facility status, stress, supplies, staffing, and infrastructure, and which of these are kept private or public; how the data being collected is used for increasing action in areas such as patient placement, patient movement, load balancing, or other preparedness and response areas; data collection challenges and data storage strategies; federal expectations, and more.
